Featured Campground: Montgomery Bell State Park

This week's featured campground is a recommendation from one of Camp South's recent renters who traveled over to Montgomery Bell State Park in Burns, TN for a weekend of kayaking, hiking, and quiet relaxation. The campground offers 116 sites situated around Four Mile Creek. There are 47 electric and water sites, plus an additional 40 with onsite sewer (super convenient). Picnic tables, trash cans, and grills are provided at each site.

The entire park encompasses more than 4,000 acres in Tennessee's western Highland Rim. Guests of the park and campground have access to 12 miles of hiking trails, fishing on Woodhaven, Acorn, and Creech Hollow lakes, and the spectacular Montgomery Bell golf course.

There's still time to plan a secluded vacation getaway this fall. Be sure to take a look at our Four Winds RV, and get in touch if you're interested in making a reservation!

Titan Up! Titans 2017 Schedule

Titans Nashville.jpg

After the incredible season and playoff run from the Nashville Predators, it's time for the Tennessee Titans to step up and show that it's a team ready to make a push for the playoffs. Lead by a high-powered offense that features one of football's best young quarterbacks in Marcus Mariota, many critics are projecting the Titans to win the AFC South.

  • QB – Marcus Mariota
  • RB – DeMarco Murray & Derrick Henry
  • TE – Delanie Walker
  • WR – Eric Decker (picked up in the offseason) alongside Rishard Matthews and rookie no. 5 pick Corey Davis

There's a lot to like about the offensive firepower in Tennessee. The defense will be called upon to stop Andrew Luck and the Colts, and matchup with the equally as stout defense in Houston. Jacksonville, per usual, is a total wildcard again this year.

2017 should prove to be an exciting season for Titans fans. Will you be there to Titan Up? Contact us if you're interested in tailgating one of the eight home games here in Nashville at Nissan Stadium!

Football Season is almost back!

Ready to tailgate your favorite team this fall?

Now that we're past the Fourth of July, many of us are looking ahead to the start of the college football season, and this week we've got the SEC Media Days to fuel our need for the return of college football! There are countless media outlets covering this week's events, but ESPN has put together a list of the top five storylines to watch for this week in Hoover, AL.

Five storylines to watch at the 2017 SEC media days

Here in Nashville, in the heart of SEC territory, we see allegiances represented from all of the major SEC schools.

  • Alabama Crimson Tide
  • Tennessee Volunteers
  • Georgia Bulldogs
  • Auburn Tigers
  • Ole Miss Rebels
  • Mississippi State Bulldogs
  • Arkansas Razorbacks
  • Vanderbilt Commodores
  • Florida Gators
  • LSU Tigers

And the list goes on... But whichever team you pull for each Saturday, we can all agree that it will be great to have football back at the start of September! If you're thinking about tailgating your team's game this upcoming season, give us a call to rent one of our RV's!

Happy (almost) football season, everyone!

ACME's Fourth of July Blowout

  • ACME Feed & Seed, located at the corner of Broadway and 1st Ave, probably will have the best rooftop view in all of Nashville for this year's spectacular fireworks show. Floors 1, 2, and 3 are open to the public from 11am – 3pm. After that patrons will pay a $10 cover. For rooftop access, patrons can purchase VIP tickets that include exclusive access to the gorgeous rooftop patio, a dinner buffet from 5–7pm, and an ACME swag bag. Get more info from ACME if you're interested!

Music City Hot Chicken Festival

  • YES! What goes better with July 4th than Nashville hot chicken? The 11th Annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival is taking place on July 4th in nearby East Nashville. In addition to the best hot chicken this city has to offer, patrons will hear live music all day and have access to our fantastic local breweries. More info here.

Tailgate Brewery Fireworks Show

  • If you'd like to avoid the swarm of people headed downtown on July 4th, then we recommend heading to the west side of town for Tailgate's Fireworks Show. This is one of our favorite hangouts in Nashville. More info at Tailgate's Facebook Page.

Wherever you choose to hangout in Nashville this Fourth of July, we hope you have a fantastic holiday weekend! If you're still looking for accommodations in Nashville, email or call us at Camp South anytime to rent an RV!

RV Camping vs. Tent Camping

Collapsed Tent.jpg

RV Camping vs. Tent Camping

Here at Camp South RV in Nashville we're big fans of Grant and Bonnie from Our Wander-Filled Life. Grant and Bonnie's travel blog covers a variety of camping topics ranging from U.S. National Park reviews to advice on what gear to pack. One of our favorite posts is their breakdown of RV camping vs. Tent camping, and the reasons why they chose to make the switch to a travel trailer.

Check out the full post at Our Wander-Filled Life

Here are some of our pet peeves with tent camping:

  • Setup! After spending hours driving to your campsite, the last thing you want to do is spend the next couple of hours fumbling around with tent canvas and poles. With an RV, simply pull into your site, plug in the electric & water hookups, and pull a comfy chair out of storage.
  • A lack of shade! Unless you're camping in a heavily wooded area, the sun can really take a toll on you with limited cover provided by a tent. Our newest RV here at Camp South has a power awning with built in LED lighting. With the flick of a switch you can extend the awning and create some much needed shade.
  • Your own bathroom! Show of hands ✋🏻 how many times have you walked into a campground bathroom and though, "uh oh." With an RV you have your own bathroom. A clean, full bath with a spacious shower and a medicine cabinet stocked and ready to go with all of your items.
  • Along the same lines you've got room to hang and fold your clothes in the RV closet and drawers. No more duffle bags mixed with clean and dirty clothes.
  • With an RV you get a refrigerator and freezer. No more lugging around heavy, leaking, coolers.
  • Cooking over a campfire is a timeless tradition, but what do you do if it's raining? In a tent you have to put dinner on hold, but if you're RV camping you can simply use the stovetop, oven and microwave inside.

We could go on and on, but you get the point. 😉 Contact us today if you're thinking about renting, or considering buying your first RV and want to test out the experience! If you have more pros of RV camping, please let us know at our Facebook page!

Camp South RV: Friday Playlist

Friday is finally here and we could not be more excited to kick back and relax this weekend here in Nashville. To help start things off the right way we've put together a Spotify playlist of our current (and all-time) favorites! Check out the stream below, and let us know what you like to hear when the weekend arrives and you're out camping.

Nashville Murals

We recently took a trip up to NYC for a friend's wedding and were struck by the incredible murals and street art found strewn throughout Brooklyn, specifically Bushwick. And while Bushwick is seriously impressive, Nashville also has a growing, inventive, street art scene. Local Nashville blogger Greta Hollar put together a great list (with two parts!) of various murals found throughout Music City.

The next time you travel to Nashville, definitely consult this list and go on a scavenger hunt to find Nashville's best street art! Below are some of our favorite murals, but please check out the full list at Greta Hollar!
