Cinco de Mayo Weekend: A Celebration of Food

We love Cinco de Mayo. Guacamole, Margaritas, Burritos, Queso, Chimichangas... Okay, it's about more than delicious Mexican food. Cinco de Mayo "...commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over the French forces of Napoleon III on May 5, 1862, at the Battle of Puebla" (per USA Today.) We can all respect a little history.

Now, back to the delicious Mexican dishes we're making this Cinco de Mayo weekend:

    • This is the perfect campfire side dish. It can be tricky to find in some grocery stores, but the cotija cheese is what makes this street corn.

No matter what you're making this Cinco de Mayo weekend, be sure to enjoy this delicious food with friends and family. If you want to try these recipes on the campfire, give us a call to rent one of our brand new RVs!

Have fun, everyone!

RV Camping vs. Tent Camping

RV Camping vs. Tent Camping

Here at Camp South RV in Nashville we're big fans of Grant and Bonnie from Our Wander-Filled Life. Grant and Bonnie's travel blog covers a variety of camping topics ranging from U.S. National Park reviews to advice on what gear to pack. One of our favorite posts is their breakdown of RV camping vs. Tent camping, and the reasons why they chose to make the switch to a travel trailer.

Here are some of our pet peeves with tent camping:

  • Setup! After spending hours driving to your campsite, the last thing you want to do is spend the next couple of hours fumbling around with tent canvas and poles. With an RV, simply pull into your site, plug in the electric & water hookups, and pull a comfy chair out of storage.
  • A lack of shade! Unless you're camping in a heavily wooded area, the sun can really take a toll on you with limited cover provided by a tent. Our newest RV here at Camp South has a power awning with built in LED lighting. With the flick of a switch you can extend the awning and create some much needed shade.
  • Your own bathroom! Show of hands ✋🏻 how many times have you walked into a campground bathroom and though, "uh oh." With an RV you have your own bathroom. A clean, full bath with a spacious shower and a medicine cabinet stocked and ready to go with all of your items.
  • Along the same lines you've got room to hang and fold your clothes in the RV closet and drawers. No more duffle bags mixed with clean and dirty clothes.
  • With an RV you get a refrigerator and freezer. No more lugging around heavy, leaking, coolers.
  • Cooking over a campfire is a timeless tradition, but what do you do if it's raining? In a tent you have to put dinner on hold, but if you're RV camping you can simply use the stovetop, oven and microwave inside.

We could go on and on, but you get the point. 😉 Contact us today if you're thinking about renting, or considering buying your first RV and want to test out the experience! If you have more pros of RV camping, please let us know at our Facebook page!
