1. Caddo – Located on the Louisiana/Texas state line. This is the South's largest freshwater lake. Visitors can camp at Caddo Lake State Park, which has 46 campsites ranging from water only, to full hook up.

2. Oconee – Located just an hour east of Atlanta sits Oconee, a resort paradise. Our camping guests can find beautiful waterfront sites all around the lake at Parks ferry Campground, Lake Oconee KOA, and Old Salem Campground. And for the golf fans in the family, the 10,000-acre resort community Reynolds Lake Oconee boasts 117 holes of golf, plus the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and ten restaurants on site.

3. Lure – Located just south of Asheville, NC, Lake Lure is a hiker's dream. The Hickory Nut Gorge provides fantastic views and a hike to the 404-foot Hickory Nut Falls. It's no wonder that Dirty Dancing  and The Last of the Mohicans were both filmed in this gorgeous location.

4. Smith Mountain – Smith Mountain Lake is Virginia's largest lake, located between Roanoke and Lynchburg. This getaway has a classic feel to it, with activities centered around a day out on the water sailing, water skiing, or relaxing out on the pontoon. In town there are art galleries to visit, and plenty of wineries to taste!

5. Mattamuskeet – Another North Carolinian gem, Lake Mattamuskeet is a sporting lake, primed for duck hunting, bird watching, and fishing.

Memorial Day Weekend: Camping!

May 26 – 28 marks Memorial Day Weekend! A time to honor and reflect upon those who have served and died for our great country. Thank you, all, for your service and commitment to our freedom. 

The weather we've had here in Nashville this month has been beyond incredible, with temperatures in the mid-80s nearly everyday. This Memorial Day Weekend, we're recommending hitting the lake with your family and friends and our pick this year is Harrison Bay State Park just outside of Chattanooga, TN.

Campground Info:

  • 162 total campsites
  • 15 on waterfront
  • 134 have water & electric
  • All have picnic tables & fire places
  • The park is located along a 40 mile stretch along Chickamauga Lake
  • The entire 1,200 acre park is located 20 miles from downtown Chattanooga
  • This was THE FIRST state park established in Tennessee in 1937

Activities:

  • Boating – guests can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards, as well as pontoon and fishing boats
  • Golf Course – (Our Pick!) Guests can play this Jack Nicklaus designed course, The Bear Trace
  • Bike Trails – 4.5 mile trail for mountain biking
  • Hiking – varying trails ranging from a half mile, up to four and a half mile loops along the shoreline
  • Swimming – In addition to the lake, the campground offers an olympic size pool that opens up Memorial Day Weekend!
